Medical Tourism Conference Begins Today

AHMEDABAD: A conference on medical value travel 'Medical Tourism - Advantage Healthcare Gujarat', jointly organized by the Tourism Corporation of Gujarat Ltd (TCGL), industry body FICCI and supported by the Health, Family Welfare Department of state government, will begin on Thursday at a hotel in Gandhinagar.

The main aim of the conference is B2B interaction between foreign delegates and Gujarat hospitals and promoting medical tourism. Health minister Nitin Patel and finance minister Saurabh Patel will be present, beside senior officials from government, industry and leading hospitals.

Growing at a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of 27%, inflows of medical tourists in India is likely to cross 3.2 million in 2015. According to the FICCI-KPMG report, the global medical value travel industry was estimated at $10.5 billion in 2012. It is expected to grow at a CAGR of 17.9% from 2013-19 to reach $32.5 billion in 2019.

Prior to the conference, there will be visits to eight major super specialty and multi-specialty hospitals for delegates to familiarize themselves with the practices and services in Gujarat.
